I thought that the only purpose of the rule for detachments not blocking
line of sight was that detachments don't block other detachments in their
armies line of sight. The example given was that the detachment inbetween
the shooting detachment and its target ducks and covers to avoid getting an
Anti Tank shot in the back of the head.

I am pretty sure that you still have to target the closest detachment, and
all a SHW allows you to do is to target individual models in the closest
detachment. Correct me if I'm wrong
