[Epic] Scattershooting...

OK, well, sorted thru 10 days or so of mail from the list( thought there
would be more than there actually was) and it looks like some things
finally quieted down, but let me share a thought:
the big "Why are orks green" debate was just the most recent example of
something that happens a lot on this list, and I wonder why people ask
this kind of question. Not a flame here, but you can

a) flip thru the 40K ork codex and get a whole buncha background on 'em
b) flip thru old orky suplements (ere we go!, etc.) and get a whole
buncha background and fluff
c) flip thru older versions of epic (Warlords) and get a whole buncha
background
d) flip thru some old WD issues and finda whole lotta orky info

And I'd be really surprised if someone just cannot find one of the
above. C'mon, where do you buy your stuff? Don't they have people
playing in-store sometimes? See if they'll show you. Most towns have at
least one store which sells old /used stuff - take a look.

And if you've pretty much already decided to paint your guys differently
(brown orks, non-codex DA's, etc) don't sweat it - they're your mini's,
and space is a pretty big place after all...

(personal comment on the ork thing: The main reason they's green is that
pretty much every picture GW has ever published has had them green.
Different shades, to be sure, but still green (even "black orcs" are
just a darker green). That and the "Greenskins" nickname for them would
seem to make it pretty cut & dried. That said, just cause that's the way
they do it doesn't have to mean diddly to you. I saw an ork army done
all as "orangeskins" one time -very different- and I've seen orks done
in black for WHFB, which was kinda cool.)

Anyway, even if you don't have access to old stuff, there is a fair bit
of current WH40K stuff for background and color schemes if you want to
know what's official. And i'd bet everyone on this list at least flips
thru WD when it comes out. Take a look if you don't - might help you
realize where some of this comes from.
Example: The "who drives the razorback" question. Look at the 40K
vehicle card (many vehicle cards have been published in WD). Looks like
the crew is "x" marines with PA and Bolt Pistols. Easy answer!
Now as far as the adding the numbers up, well, we've pretty much
thrashed that out before and I'll not start it up again. I try to think
of it as one company is pretty much in charge of the vehicles and
serves as drivers/gunners/assistant techs. Doesn't fit exactly with the
fluff, but it's not too far out for me.

Parting shot: The company I was at in SF is right behind the Mindscape
building (who I believe develop all the GW computer games for SSI).
Tempted to go knock on a door and see what they knew, but I'm not sure
John E. is at that one (probably at SSI's office) so I resisted the
temptation. Hard to drive by it day after day though...glad he posted
some news about IT.
