The reason that the Squat rules are a bit flaky is that GW are redesigning =
the Squat characteristics for 40K and didn't want to release any rules for =
the Epic Squats until this has been completed.
I was informed that the Squa=
ts WILL be getting a complete overhaul sometime in the future, but in the m=
eantime the Journal rules were published for those who have Squat armies/mo=
dels so that they can incorporate them into the new system with little dela=
y.
I know it is not an ideal situation but it was done purely as a stopga=
p NOT as a set of diffinitive Squat lists.
As I have a very small Squat a=
rmy, the approach a few of us decided to adopt was to meld them into the Im=
perial army much the same as the IG was. It makes quite a novel balance to =
have a few robots supporting IG troops and Squat hearthguard fighting along=
side Commisars and the like.
After all, the Squats were part of the overal=
l Imperial forces in the original Codex.
The problem that the designers pe=
rceived was that the Squats were being used purely as a sit back and pound =
the daylights out of the opposition with artillery.
Hopefully the new squat=
revisions will once again create a completely different race with their ow=
n unique characteristics.

Yes, the squats got=
screwed. We had to come up with our own
rules. If they leave out the ent=
ire army and refuse to even publish
them in WD, I think they're getting scr=
ewed.
