----> This is the one big problem I had when the codex came out. OK, so
now
the troops look different, but they're all the same in game terms - not
good.
In 40K there are various skills (veteran abilities) you can take to beef
up
different squads, plus stormtroopers. Rough riders serve as your assault
troops, but I haven't tried 'em in E40K so I don't know how well they
work.

----> Yes, IG in old 40K and SM/TL could have Beastmen. (40K had another
classic type - human bombs and penal squads) Beastmen had no ranged
attack
but a +3 CAF (vs +1 for a normal Assault trooper) made them good
bodyguards
for your Hvy co or arty co.
