[NetEpic ML] Re: [v5.0] New Imperial units
As far as sea-borne transport, there is an article in Undersea
Warfare Magazine (Fall 2001, US Navy publication) which outlines a
number of designs that the former Soviet Navy created during and after
WWII for Submarine LSTs. The largest diesel version could carry 745
troops (a full Soviet Infantry Battalion), 10 T-34s, 12 trucks, 12
towed artillery pieces, and 3 medium fighters (launched from a
catapult rail on the deck). They also went as far as to lay down a
prototype nuclear version which was never completed.
The US Navy planned a Submarine LST which would have carried 2,240
Marines and land them using "flying platforms" (LCACs), but it never
got off the drawing board.
Could be interesting units, in general and for specific scenarios.
