Epic 30,000

The Horus Heresy

This is a set of Army List for Game's Workshop's game Warhammer Epic
40,000 for re fighting the great wars of the Horus Heresy. The primary
source for these list is White Dwarf 126 (June, 1990)

This will be part of the Epic 41K project, however in this pass, I am
not including any of the Epic 41K rules, even those that were in effect
for Space Marine 1st Ed.

Part I General Notes about Space Marines, both Loyal and Traitor

Chaos players: If you are doing Traitor Legions you are NOT using
Chaos Space Marines. You are using Space Marines. You have not lost
this war and started "The Long War" yet. You are still more or less
normal Space Marines. You follow, at this time, the same Codex as the
loyal Space Marines.

Space Wolf, Blood Angels, Dark Angels & Ultra Marines. Most of the
special powers that your chapters had after this war do not exist as
yet. These 4 legions have a some what different army list than the
rest, but in the whole they are still normal legions. In particular
the following notes apply to these 4 legions.

1. Space Wolves: You don't have "Great Companies" yet. You still
follow the Codex, like all other marines. You have unlimited access to
drop pod detachments, but limited access to ground transport

2. Blood Angels: You do NOT have the "Death Company" as yet. You,
however tend toward Assault Marines.

3. Dark Angels: Your first battalion in a given Regiment is different
from the Codex. This battalion is what will become your "Death Wing"
and "Raven Wing"

4. Ultra Marines. Not only are you NOT the standard from which all
other Marines are derived from, your army list has the greatest change
from the then current Codex.

Part II Space Marine Legion Organization

A Space Marine Legion has up to 20 Regiments.

Each Regiment has a command element and exactly 3 battalions
Each Battalion has a command element and exactly 3 companies
Each Company has a command element and exactly 3 platoons

All legions are done this way, on both sides of the war.

Regimental HQ (50 pts plus cost of platoons)
1 Commander Terminator Stand 50 pts.
up to 6 Regimental level Support Platoons (see platoon list for
options)

Only the regiment designated as the "Main Battle Force" may deploy
regimental level support units on to the battle field

Battalion HQ Detachment: (142 pts. plus cost of platoons)
1 Space Marine Battalion Commander ("Captain") 50 pts.
 Upgraded to Assault
 Land Raider mount: 35 pts.
Assault units 17 pts.
2 Land Speeders 40 pts.
Up to 3 Battalion Level Support Platoons (see platoon List for options)

Each company has a command element as per normal E40K, plus 3 platoons
from the Space Marine Platoon Lists. Note that the "Razorback" option
is not available for Horus Heresy era games.

A regiment has a total of 27 to 42 space marine platoons (27 line
platoons and up to 15 support platoons) Any platoon, regardless of
where it "lives" in the regiment may be of any type, (i.e. you may have
a tactical platoon as a regimental level support platoon and you may
have a support weapon (e.g. Mole Mortar) platoon as a line platoon.
For some platoons there is a limit on how many of that type may be in a
regiment as a whole. This does not effect the number of these types
that may be in a given company or battalion, just the regiment as a
whole. This will be noted in the list following.

Part III Space Marine Platoons
Infantry Platoons:

Tactical Platoon (unlimited)
 4 Tactical Squads (8 units) 120 pts.
Mounted in 4 Rhinos 148 pts.
Mounted in 4 Land Raiders 280 pts.

Assault Platoon (unlimited)
 2 Assault Squads (4 units) 68 pts.
Mounted in 2 Rhinos 82 pts.
Mounted in 2 Land Raiders 148 pts.

Devastator Platoon (unlimited)
 2 Devastator squads (4 units) 80 pts
Mounted in 2 Rhinos 94 pts.
Mounted in 2 Land Raiders 160 pts.

Terminator Platoon (up to 12 per regiment) [yes, this means that you
could have a full battalion]
 4 Terminator Squads (4 units) 76 pts.
Mounted in 2 Rhinos 90 pts.
Mounted in 2 Land Raiders 156 pts.

Note on infantry platoon transport: The transport pools are in fact
battalion level assets. The cost of using Land Raiders as mounts is
higher (by 5 points per Land Raider) than in normal E40K because of the
design of the original list, however unlike normal E40K any infantry
type can be mounted in a Land Raider, not just Terminators.

Other Space Marine Platoons

Support Weapon Platoons (Unlimited)
 5 Support Weapons 65pts.
Tarantula, Rapier, Mole Mortar or Thudd Guns. Each platoon must be of
the same weapon type. If using E41K or Alan's flavor rules, these
weapons have different statistics. In base line E40K they are all
Support Weapons.

 5 Dreadnoughts 135 pts.

Robot Platoons (up to 9 per Regiment)
5 Robots [Not in E40K See E41K list]

Land Speeder Platoon (unlimited)
 5 Land Speeders 100 pts.

Recon Platoon (up to 4 per Regiment)
 2 Land Speeders 80 pts.
[See E41K for why this is different from a Land Speeder Platoon]

Bike Platoon
 5 Bikes units 50 pts.

Armor Platoons(up to 12 per regiment)
 2 Land Raiders 70 pts
   or
 3 Predators 81 pts

Ordinatus Platoon (up to 12 per regiment)
 3 Whirlwinds 78 pts.
   or
 3 Vindicators 66 pts.

Capitol Imperialis (up to 6 per regiment)
 1 Capital Imperialis 330 pts.
[Note in base line E40K this is a Leviathan]

Each Drop Pod Platoon has enough drop pods to support 2 infantry
platoons

The legion specific rules will be posted a bit latter.
